The southwest coastal region of Bangladesh where Shushilan works is disaster prone area. The people of this coastal area were saved in the last Tsunami due to low tide in the hitting time. Cyclone of 1988 and flood of 2000 remind us about the serious disaster. Cyclone hits this area every year in November-December, but the Sundarbans work as barrage to protect the people. These disasters damages assets, standing crops, shelters, forest animals and lives. Besides, seasonal draught, hailstorm, and tornado are frequent. Scientists assumed that this region will be submerged within next 50 years due to global warming and sea level rise. Shushilan has taken the following activities to face the aforementioned problems: |
