Working areas of Shushilan are very remote village areas where no health facilities are exists. In this case, following health programmes have been undertaken for development of health services for the rural poor

Coastal and saline geo-structure WaterAid partnered with Shushilan in November 2005. Shushilan designed a project called "Promoting Environmental Health through Sustainable Provision for Safe Water and Sanitation" to ensure safe water and sanitation for vulnerable communities in Shyamnagor and Asasuni Upazila through a community-led, demand-driven approach. Shushilan will cover a total of 23 unions and municipalities in two upazila in south-western Bangladesh (642,151 population). It is the first opportunity for WaterAid to work in the context of coastal and saline geo-structures to address the unique challenges through piloting and promoting different approaches and technological options. |

Sanitation programme was started in 1993 through establishing Village Sanitation Centre. Motivation activities were also undertaken for community people to use sanitary toilet. 5 villages have been brought under cent percent sanitation coverage. Besides, 5,950 group members have been provided with sanitary latrines. |

AIDS and drug addiction are severe problems in the working area of Shushilan as the areas are located in border sides of Bangladesh. Drug addicted people are most vulnerable for AIDS. Moreover, increasing of smuggling and prostitution is gradually increasing vulnerability to AIDS. Staff training, group members training and orientation of school children have been organized to make them aware on AIDS. Uneducated rural people perform harmful actions in reproductive health care services which are consequences of different superstitions. Mother and child health care options are discussed in group meetings. |

Primary health care education has been provided to the group members through weekly meetings where different aspects of health education like prevention of chronic diseases, mother and child health care, symptom of common diseases etc. are discussed. |
