Disaster Management
The southwest coastal region of Bangladesh where Shushilan works is disaster prone area. The people of this coastal area were saved in the last Tsunami due to low tide in the hitting time. Cyclone of 1988 and flood of 2000 remind us about the serious disaster. Cyclone hits this area every year in November-December, but the Sundarbans work as barrage to protect the people. These disasters damages assets, standing crops, shelters, forest animals and lives. Besides, seasonal draught, hailstorm, and tornado are frequent. Scientists assumed that this region will be submerged within next 50 years due to global warming and sea level rise.

Shushilan has taken the following activities to face the aforementioned problems:



Climate Change
Due to green house effect global temperature is increasing gradually. Normal environment is being disrupted and imbalanced for this alarming increased global warming. The scientists have blamed human interventions for this. Shushilan has undertaken the following initiatives for the coastal people to cope up with the adverse environmental condition and changing situation

Disaster Preparedness
Disaster makes the people more distressed and helpless; poor, especially women and children become most sufferers. Shushilan has a regular activity on Disaster Preparedness. The main purpose of disaster preparedness program is to make the people aware on the preparedness for before, during and post disaster period with developing people’s skill to face the disasters.
