A number of 500 farmers of three upazilas-Kaliganj, Shyamnagar and Paikgacha under five centers have been involved in fish culture activities. Shrimp (Post Larvae) PL is nursed for one or two days in the Hapa installed in river to make the PLs adjustable with the river or gher water. Survival rate of this nurtured PL is high. Shrimp gher owners purchase nurtured PL than the normal hatchery PL at higher price. Poor women can be involved in PL nursing activities to raise their income in spite of difficulties to protect the Hapas from crabs. As a piloting project, Shushilan was able to involve 20 poor women in PL nursing activities in 2004.
