An accomplished development and humanitarian professional with more than 35 years of experience in the NGO sector, specializing in human rights, humanitarian response, research, governance, refugee management, migration, climate resilience, and organizational development. Since 1989, I have led and managed large-scale development and emergency response programmes across Bangladesh, with extensive experience in the southwest coastal region and the Rohingya refugee response in Cox’s Bazar since 2017. He has engaged for the past four years on the Steering Committee of the NGO Platform for the Rohingya Response and as an Advisory Board Member of the UN OCHA Bangladesh Humanitarian Fund Allocation, contributing to localisation, humanitarian financing, and policy advocacy.
He holds a Master's degree in Social Science from the University of Dhaka, a Law degree from the National University, and have completed Chartered Accountancy training under ICAB. His professional development includes advanced training from the Asian Institute of Management (Philippines), the Advocacy Institute (USA), Chonnam National University/May18 Foundation (South Korea), and the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (Italy). His expertise includes participatory action research, programme design and management, monitoring and evaluation, institutional capacity strengthening, human rights advocacy, disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, refugee protection, and governance. He leads collaborative research with international universities, developed organisational policies and strategic plans, and managed projects funded by UN agencies and international donors. As a committed human rights defender, he continues to promote the rights of refugees, minorities, women, and other marginalised communities through evidence-based research, policy advocacy, and community-led development initiatives.

Abdul Alim, Assistant Director

Md. Abdul Alim is a development professional with over 30 years of extensive field experience in WASH, community mobilization, humanitarian response, and development projects in Bangladesh, including Rohingya refugee camps and host communities. He holds a Master’s in Social Welfare and a BA from National University.
