Shushilan, with the support of the Local Government Ministry of Bangladesh, UNDP, the Embassy of Sweden, and Marico Bangladesh, successfully distributed high-quality Kerala coconut saplings to 2,556 SWAPNO beneficiaries across 83 unions in 10 upazilas of Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, and Gopalganj districts under the SWAPNO II project.

Out of the total, 2,390 beneficiaries received one sapling each, and 83 Union Parishads received two saplings each—totaling 2,556 trees. This initiative aims to support climate change mitigation and offer long-term nutritional and economic benefits by promoting sustainable agriculture and increasing green cover.

Beneficiary selection was conducted through door-to-door visits and community consultations, followed by recommendations from Union Parishads and final approval by Upazila Executive Officers. Only beneficiaries with suitable land (sunny and open areas) were selected to ensure the survival and growth of the saplings.

All selected members received orientation on pre-planting practices such as fertilization, fencing, and maintenance. Regular follow-ups are being conducted by union-level staff to ensure proper care and growth of the saplings.

The distribution took place from July 7 to 25, 2025. Beyond immediate distribution, the initiative is designed to offer a sustainable source of food and income while enhancing local environmental resilience against the impacts of climate change.
